SECOND placed Chrome Stars welcome a resurgent Town United at Chrome Stadium in Kwekwe in a match either side will want to win this afternoon as both are enjoying a fine run in the Zifa Central Soccer League. Despite a slow start to the season, Chrome Stars have picked themselves up to become one of the title contenders and now lie second with 34 points, eight points behind run away leaders Chapungu who have collected 42 points.
The chrome miners have gone on a six-match unbeaten run and are yet to taste defeat on their home turf while on the other hand Beitbridge based, Town United are unbeaten since former Shabanie Mine coach John Phiri took over the reins in Week 11.
Under the guidance of Phiri, the border town outfit has won four matches drawing only once which saw them climbing the ladder to third on the log standings with 30 points.
A win for them tomorrow will see them within a point of their adversaries today and will fancy their chances of landing the sole promotional ticket in the top-flight league.
Elsewhere, Hwahwa whose campaign has gone off the rails after a positive start to the season, welcome unpredictable Vumbachikwe at Hwahwa Grounds in an encounter the correctional services side mentor, Terrence Mhiripiri believes will mark the turn around of the club’s fortunes after a lean spell which stretches back to Week 12.
Mhiripiri though conceding that the championship is now out of their reach says he is now targeting a top four finish and has bolstered his side bringing in 10 new faces to the side including those who had abandoned the Hwahwa ship due to contractual disagreements with the team management at the start of the season.
