Zisca chairman Bheki Nyoni yesterday said his association was disturbed by the emergence of another coach’s organisation – the Soccer Coaches Union of Zimbabwe headed by Moses Chunga.
The Zimbabwe football legend’s group was launched in Harare at the weekend.
Nyoni said he felt there was a duplication of roles between the two bodies, which might lead to confusion and division among the coaches.
He said Zisca has been working hard to try and take care of the welfare of all the coaches.
“The association is there to look into the standardisation of the quality of our coaches and organising courses for our members,” said Nyoni.
“At the same time we are also looking at the welfare of the members.
“We have legal representation as Chadyiwa and Associates and our labour expert Charles Mudyiwa help in these issues.
“As an association we feel that a member must be proactive and should bring in ideas if they feel they can contribute to help the improvement of the welfare of the coaches.
“We are currently drafting a code of conduct with Mudyiwa and this will make it difficult for clubs to fire coaches without following proper procedure.”
Nyoni took a swipe on the rival faction.
“It is not right for those guys to say that they are complementing us because they never talked to us,” he said.
“What is very clear is that they have never wanted to work with me from the start and what we only know about them at the moment is that they have submitted papers to Zifa asking for recognition.
“As an association we are disturbed by the scenario, which might end up dividing the coaches. We are prepared to engage them if they like.
“According to the (Zifa) constitution only one body is recognised as an affiliate and in a case where members feel that there is a need of a sub-committee, then we are prepared to work along those
lines. But it doesn’t mean that we will take everyone in that union into the sub-committee,” said Nyoni.
However, Chunga maintained that his union was not a splinter group but will work in parallel with Zisca in meeting the welfare side of the coaches.
Chunga said SCUZ was formed after the realisation that members’ welfare and working conditions had been neglected by the mainstream organisation.
“We are not fighting anyone here and we are not anticipating any problems,” said Chunga.
“If we feel that there are areas we need to work hand in hand with them (Zisca) we will talk to them.
“Our mandate and main concern, as we have said before, is the welfare of the coaches because this is an area that has suffered neglect for years.
“For example, if you look at the ways some of us are chased from work, even a dog deserves better treatment.”
SCUZ members met in Harare over the weekend where they embarked on a membership campaign and laid down the vision of the organisation.
