POLICE in Kadoma are investigating a case in which leaders of the Salvation Army Church reportedly tore up Zimbabwe dollar notes during a church service.
Using their official Twitter handle, police confirmed the arrest of the church’s major and his wife for the offence.
“On 8 January 2022, police in Kadoma have arrested the head and Major of Salvation Army in Rimuka, Felix Tengemhare (62) and his wife, Benina Tengemhare, who is a Captain in the church, for tearing nineteen ZWL$50 notes during a church service,” said police.
Section 42 of the Reserve Bank Act Chapter 22:15 makes it a crime to deface or destroy Zimbabwe bank notes and provides a prison term of up to seven years for the offence.
