A church leader has unveiled a community house in Chitungwiza designed to serve as a centre of hope, guidance and support for congregants and residents in an effort to combat drug and substance abuse among youths

The house, which was launched last Saturday, is in Seke’s Unit F suburb, was constructed by Jerusalem Johane Masowe Apostolic Church leader, Blessing Mutize.

He said the initiative was aimed at educating young people on the dangers of drug abuse and to give residents spiritual and practical assistance.

“This house is not just for prayers, it is for the community to gather, to share and to support one another,” said Mr Mutize.

“Anyone in need of advice or encouragement will find it here.”

He said the project is also intended to bridge the gap between spiritual life and economic empowerment by offering guidance on financial matters and personal growth.

“We must understand that development begins with people. This house is a platform to teach financial literacy and economic resilience.

“Our faith must translate into action that uplifts families and strengthens communities,” said Mr Mutize.

Speaking at the same event, Mashonaland West businessman, Mr Marshall Jonga, said businesspeople must unite to drive community development.

Mr Jonga emphasised that entrepreneurs should not work in isolation but gather around round tables to share ideas and create initiatives that uplift society.

“We advise each other to come up with more initiatives that benefit the community as a whole.

“When businessmen sit together, they can map out how to develop areas into thriving communities,”he said.

He emphasised that business leaders have a responsibility to give back, ensuring their efforts contribute to Zimbabwe’s goal of becoming an upper‑middle‑income society by 2030.

“Our discussions must focus on how we can establish communities that contribute to national development.”

Shama Kitchens director Mr Shadreck Marashe emphasised that the house was built on commitment to innovation, ensuring fitted furniture solutions that maximize space and integrate modern technology.

“We try to make sure we utilise the available space that we have and supply modern appliances so that everything is in one place.

“We make sure our cupboards are modern and sleek, with no errors, serving the purpose they are meant to serve,he said.
