Indigenous churches have been praised for being key players in accelerating national development that will speedily engender an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
Deputy Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Shiella Chikomo told thousands of Zion Christian Church-Kumuka Kuvakafa(ZCC-K) congregants that the Second Republic valued the role played by churches in national development.
Deputy Minister Chikomo, who is also the National Assembly representative for Mwenezi East, was speaking during the ZCC-K 50th anniversary celebrations held at the church’s Canaan sub-headquarters near Rutenga.
The celebrations also concurrently marked ZCC-K Bishop Lyphet Nhaudzashe Matenda’s birthday.
Dep Minister Chikomo hailed churches for consistently complementing Government in uplifting communities through building schools and health institutions.
ZCC-K is building a primary school at Canaan that will improve access to education around Rutenga.
The Deputy Minister said such developments were in sync with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which, among other things, targets reducing the distance travelled by learners to access education.
She commissioned a classroom block built by ZCC-K, further praising the church for ensuring the school has unlimited running water after installing a solarised borehole.
The Deputy Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister donated building materials worth over US$6000 for building a second classroom block at the institution.
Dep Minister Chikomo also donated a Star Link kit for internet access at the school and handed over US$1000 cash to assist the elderly in the ZCC-K church.
Bishop Matenda paid homage to the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa for continuing to deliberately empower local churches.
He pledged the church’s firm commitment to partner with the Second Republic to deliver a prosperous and peaceful Zimbabwe.
Bishop Matenda said all the pointers showed that Zimbabwe was cruising to attaining upper middle-income society status even before the year 2030.
