CITY Academy continue to make strides as they are currently in Europe for a camp and coaching clinic at the invitation of Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam Academy.
The team which left the country last week arrived safely in the Netherlands for a seven-day stay before they proceeded to Spain.
The youngsters had the opportunity to tour some football facilities of the two sides and also meet with former South African former professional footballer and current Ajax Youth coach, Steven Pienaar.
City Academy director Agrippa Guti said they are happy to have managed to fulfil the tour and thanked ZIFA and Sports Commission.
“We are thankful to ZIFA and Sports Commission for the clearance and permission to participate in this prestigious occasion. This is beneficial for our country through showcasing our talent.
“We have managed to travel with a couple of players who include Kelvin Moses, Trust Muchemwa (both15), Gabriel Maseko, Lucas Moyo (both 9), Jayden Cortez, Tanatswa Masiiwa, Christamore Macherure (all 10) and Abdul Mueed Sheik (8),” said Guti.
Guti has called on Academies to start developing players from a tender age so that they get the much needed exposure.
“Apart from crying for sponsorship from corporate organisations, the football development fraternity should also seek to empower themselves through coaching and administrative courses as football is evolving. We are hopeful for a national football curriculum as academies to start from primary school so that we have our own philosophy and culture as team Zimbabwe
“As a country we need to utilise the experts we have in sports development and also if possible students in sports science should play a key role,” added Guti.
