HARARE City coach Bigboy Mawiwi is aiming for maximum points to keep his side in the hunt for their maiden championship when they host Buffaloes in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Rufaro tomorrow.
City are dark horses in the race and could go top tomorrow if they keep their nerve and win this contest.
The Sunshine Boys are currently two points off the pace and coach Bigboy Mawiwi yesterday said they would be aiming to pounce on every opportunity as Highlanders and Dynamos clash in a top-of-the-table tie at Barbourfields on Sunday.
“The race is still open and it’s important for us to collect maximum points since we would want to keep up there where the others are.
“Yes, pressure is always there but not so much as on Highlanders and Dynamos. As a team we have achieved much more than we have hoped for and there is also a good chance that we can do even better.
“So, we will look to play our normal game and try as much as we can to enjoy ourselves,” said Mawiwi.
But since their promotion last year, City have never beaten Buffaloes.
The teams have clashed three times with the army side winning twice by identical 1-0 margins while the other match ended in a goalless draw.
“We are aware that Buffaloes are a good side. We have never beaten them and we just hope to turn things around. With due respect we are preparing for maximum points,” said Mawiwi.
Harare City are coming from a morale-boosting win away at How Mine which put them level on 42 points with second-placed Dynamos on the table.
However, Mawiwi was yesterday worried by the fitness of three of his players Ronald Maketo, Phineas Bamusi and Talent Chawapiwa.
CAPS United, on 39 points, are still in with a mathematical chance and the Harare giants have decided to slash their gate charges for the match against How Mine at the National Sports Stadium to US$3 for the cheapest ticket.
The Green Machine will welcome their midfield kingpin Tendai Samanja back from suspension.
The club’s media manager, Joyce Kapita, yesterday urged the fans to come and back their team.
“CAPS United have reduced charges for the rest of the ground for the How Mine game this Saturday. We came to this conclusion for our supporters to come in their numbers.
“The grand stand will be US$5 and US$10 for VIP,” said Kapita.
Army side Black Rhinos will be out to continue with their battle for survival when they face troubled former champions Motor Action at Motor Action Sports Club.
Police side Black Mambas are away in another battle for survival against Hwange at the Colliery on Sunday.
