City Link gives back to community

Leading intercity bus operator, City Link Luxury Coaches, on Wednesday donated 100 blankets to care homes across Bulawayo as part of its corporate social responsibility.

King George VI School and Centre, Queen Elizabeth Adventist Home, Coronation Cottages and Jairos Jiri were the beneficiaries of the initiative which is set to be spread across the country.

In an interview before handing over the donation, City Link operations manager Mr Gerald Zumbika said the initiative is part of the company’s way of giving back to communities that support its business.

“We’re involved in a number of initiatives to give back to communities in and around Zimbabwe. It has become our tradition every year to give back to communities in appreciation of their support,” he said.

Mr Zumbika said this year the first beneficiaries were from Bulawayo and included children and the elderly at different institutions.

He said the gesture was the company’s way of expressing its gratitude for the support it is getting from communities.

“We are part of the communities that we operate from hence these donations we are giving,” said Mr Zumbika.

 Accepting the donation, King George V1 headmistress Mrs Perseverance Hadebe said the gesture was timely given that it is winter.

“We’re grateful as an organisation to City Link for their kind gesture and these blankets will keep the children warm at night,” she said.

Coronation Cottages representative Ms Edith Muller thanked the organisation for remembering them at a time when the cold spell is at its peak.

“It’s not all people who are generous enough to give. I would like to thank you so much for such a generous gesture,” she said.

Mrs Ellen Mfumu from Queen Elizabeth Adventist Home said such donations enable the home to take care of the children.

“We really appreciate this gift. The weather is unforgiving at the moment and we rely on such donations to take care of the children,” she said.
