THE City of Harare has refuted a recent statement by former Chegutu West legislator Dexter Nduna claiming that a group known as Team Chapter will be taking over parking operations in Harare. In a statement the council said Mr Nduna’s statement was false and misleading.
“The city remains in full control of parking management within its jurisdiction, and there is no arrangement or agreement with Team Chapter or any other entity to assume these responsibilities,” read the statement.
“City Parking Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the City of Harare, continues to be the designated operator for parking services within the city. The city’s operations adhere to the provisions outlined in the Urban Council Act Chapter 25:15, particularly Sections 189 to 191, which govern parking spaces, fees and management.
“The public is advised to disregard any claims made by Team Chapter and to continue dealing with City Parking Private Limited for all parking-related matters.”
City Parking through its management echoed the same sentiments and said Mr Nduna was spreading falsehoods on social media regarding parking management in Harare.
In a statement, City Parking said it was a private company owned 100 percent by council with full mandate to manage parking in Harare.
“Parking fee payments are payable to City Parking marshals only and City of Harare has not engaged Nduna or any other company or individuals to collect parking fees,” read the statement.
“The threat by Nduna to disrupt parking operations is not a threat to City Parking only, but to businesses and property laws and shall be met with law enforcement and legal action. There is no place for anarchy, hooliganism and lawlessness in Zimbabwe.
“It is unfortunate that, left unaddressed, Nduna’s behaviour taints the image of the Government and the political party he purports to be a part of. Regrettably, such reckless utterances have potential to scare-off investors.”
City Parking said Nduna had no locus standi or legal basis to make such proclamations and they have urged the public to ignore his statement.
