Three City of Harare employees accused of negligence that allegedly led to the deaths of three people in Budiriro 3 have been denied bail by a Harare regional magistrate.

Moses Dicko (57), Tinei Chihwai (41) and Thomas Rwakatiwana (52) appeared before regional magistrate Mr Musaiona Shotgame, facing three counts of culpable homicide.

The accused were remanded in custody until June 29 pending the completion of investigations.

In denying them bail, Mr Shotgame said the charges are serious as the alleged negligence resulted in the loss of lives.

The State alleges that the accused were responsible for a sewage excavation site in Budiriro 3, where an unsecured manhole was left without adequate safety measures.

It is alleged that the uncovered pit became a death trap, leading to the drowning of three victims.
