City pool association investigates match-fixing

The development follows the lodging of a complaint by Nkulumane alleging that the teams conspired to fix the result of the match to save Drill Hall from relegation.
Drill Hall beat West Comm 12-1 and the result condemned Nkulumane to relegation as Drill Hall who had a similar number of points managed to squeeze through courtesy of a superior frame difference.
Confirming the development, BPA secretary Charles Dube said the association has since received a complaint from Nkulumane.

“Yes, we have received a formal complaint from Nkulumane who allege that the game between Drill Hall and West Comm was fixed to help Drill Hall survive relegation,” said Dube
Dube said his office was now waiting to receive and scrutinise score sheets and other related documentation.
“We are now looking into the team score sheets with a view of establishing what exactly transpired in that particular match,” he added.

He also revealed that the BPA had put together an investigating team which will visit the venue of the game under dispute.
“A disciplinary team has since been put   together and it is chaired by Sipho Nkala,” he said.
Dube said only after the team has tabled its findings will the outcome be made public. He said any team found guilty of having tampered    with the game will be expelled from the   association while players risk being banned from the game.

West Comm have maintained that the result was not rigged and that they were without two influential players in the team that lost the match. They say that their players were injured in an accident after a game.

The development means that the sixteenth slot for promotion into the BPA premiership  is still up for grabs. A total of eight teams  were relegated from the BPA premier league  which was won by Kings.
The relegated teams included Fast Cash,  Kugona, Ntabeni, Marula, Heroes, Nketa and Green Corner. Nkulumane or Drill Hall will complete the list.

Meanwhile, Kings proved again that they are the champions of pool in the city after they provided nine of the top twelve players in the Ayobar doubles tournament over the weekend.
Geshem Nash of Kings and Joseph Tamanikwa of ONE were the champions in the rather poorly attended tournament.
A total of 54 players registered for the tournament.

In second place was the Kings pair of Alexander Uzande and Nicodemus Charandura. Wisdom Mkhize and Chris Mashavira both of Kings weighed in at third while Paul Mutizo and Ngoni Mangore both from Kings came in at fourth.

It was Kings again that provided the fifth best pairing of Godfrey Kondo and Joseph  Mwanza before Gold and Black pair of Lemson Ncube and Franko Goribondo came in at sixth.
