adminIn a statement, yesterday Zanu-PF secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo described the allegations as preposterous.
“We have observed with considerable disappointment that the MDC-T is causing a lot of discomfort within the alien community urging them not to vote for Zanu-PF because, allegedly, Zanu-PF will strip them of their citizenship upon forming the next Government,” Cde Gumbo said.
“This is preposterous and scandalous. It is unfortunate that the MDC-T has chosen to cause this kind of despondency to pursue its own narrow, political interests.”
Zanu-PF fought very hard in the face of stiff opposition from the MDC-T to make sure aliens were recognised in the new Constitution. “It is precisely this fact that makes the claim by the MDC-T an absolute and total absurdity. As far as we are concerned, the so called aliens are now recognised by our Constitution as fully fledged citizens and we look forward to their participation in crucial national processes as citizens,” Cde Gumbo said.
