Clash of titans brings house down

The show was held at Metropolis Bar at Ascot Shopping Centre and was organised by local musicians in a bid to promote the music industry in the city.

Maskiri was the highlight of the night as he showed why he is respected in the local music industry with a 30-minute performance.

He sang songs such as Zverudo Zvaramba and Wenera among others.

During his performance Maskiri did a freestyle much to the delight of the crowd that had gathered at the bar.

POY went on stage for just a few minutes and left revellers guessing as he gave a sample of what would come.

Centre Party kept revellers on their feet throughout the performance.

Rassman Python also made a mark for himself and showed that he has potential to take over the local dance hall scene with a little guidance.

In an interview after the show Maskiri described it as a plus for the Bulawayo music industry.

He said the support from fans showed that local music was very much in demand.

“Everything went well at the show and the response from the crowd was fantastic. This shows us that there is demand for local music,” said Maskiri.

He said Bulawayo had the potential of coming up with chart topping songs if the artistes were united.

“Bulawayo now knows we are here and we are crowd pullers. The artistes should be united and hold joint shows in the city and create their own fan base. The upcoming ones just need guidance but the talent is there,” said Maskiri.

Centre Party said the show went well and it was not about competing but about improving artistes.

He said plans were in place to come up with a reggae show every Wednesday night.

“The show was great and we were just improving each other as artistes, it was not about competing. We want to have a reggae night for Bulawayo, watch this space,” said Centre Party.

He urged musician in the city to come up with a compilation album so as to further push their music.

“Look at all those who worked on the Chamembe project, some have made it. It is high time we come up with a compilation album and send it to the radio stations and our music gets played,” said Centre Party.

POY said he wanted to be more on stage but he was very busy at the gate and tying loose ends that was why he cut short his performance.

“We packed the place and I am happy for us as Bulawayo artistes. That shows that with unity we can make it big,” said POY who had just come from an interview on the new Star FM.

Supporting acts were Mac, Karma, Paxido and Style.

DJs Fistos and Sweeto provided the entertainment after the “titans” had finished.
