The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Progress Matengaifa, a clearing agent at the Chirundu Border Post, on charges of fraud and obstruction of justice.

Matengaifa is accused of facilitating the illegal importation of cement into Zimbabwe, in violation of Statutory Instrument 89 of 2021 which banned the importation of cement to promote local cement manufacturers.

ZACC received a tip-off about the smuggling.

Upon investigation, a truck carrying cement that had been processed by Matengaifa was intercepted.

Investigations revealed that Matengaifa fraudulently used a Bill of Entry previously used for importing tiles.

Matengaifa is also accused of assisting the truck driver to escape, thereby obstructing justice.

The accused was arrested on September 26 and is set to appear before the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court.
