Clemence Matawu is quitting professional football, but not until he makes it seven appearances on the Soccer Stars calendar.
Seven is regarded as the number of completeness and it speaks true of Matawu who will complete his top- flight football journey, which began in 2001, next year. In a season he made a new Premiership record of six times as a Soccer Star of the Year finalist, the 35-year-old Chicken Inn midfielder believes it wasn’t even his best.
An interesting claim.
“Definitely (I will be a finalist again next season) I was so jealousy sitting there not as the main man, and I am hoping next year I will work hard enough to be part of the top three,” he said.
“This was not my best season I want to give one final push before I call it quits,” Matawu told The Sunday Mail.
Hard work is something he is renowned for since his days at Motor Action. He would be the first at practice and would get straight to work before team practice. It’s a secret he believes will make him shine again next season before hanging up his boots.
“Hard work always pays and looking ahead I will continue doing what I have been doing because it has given me results. I believe I didn’t give in a very good shift this season because of injuries especially my hamstring, but I hope next season I won’t have these troubles,” he said.
Matawu has played in Poland for Podbeskidzie in Division One and also Polonia Bytom in the Ekstraklasa, the country’s the top-league.
