Clerk of court remanded in custody on theft of State funds

He is also facing a drunken driving charge.
Wilson Tapiwa Nyazika, whose age is not given but stays at Number 161 Courtney Selous Crescent in Victoria Falls has not been formally charged with theft and drunken driving.

The State is still trying to verify the actual amount he stole and an internal accountant from Bulawayo has already been sent to the resort town and it is hoped that when he appears in court on Friday next week something would have come out.

Nyazika is denying the charges and is appearing at the Hwange magistrates’ courts. The prosecutor, Mr Sifelumusa Fuzane told the court at his initial appearance early this month, that Nyazika’s duties included receiving money on behalf of his employer and banking it.
It is the State case that between 24 December last year and 7 January this year, he received a total US$7 721 and R300 on seven occasions which he was supposed to bank.

The State will seek to prove that Nyazika converted the money to his own use and nothing was recovered.
On 2 January, Nyazika was driving a Mercedes Benz E280 along Pioneer Road from the Victoria Falls town centre towards Chinotimba Township.

When near the Elephant Hills houses, the State alleges that he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and hit a tree.

Police attended to the scene and allegedly observed that Nyazika appeared to be drunk, as he was smelling alcohol, was speaking loudly and could not stand on his own without assistance.
He was taken for a breathalyser and was found to be having excess alcohol in his blood leading to the charge.-Chronicle
