SAUL CHAMINUKA has suddenly become the local Premiership’s most wanted coach.
The veteran coach has posted some respectable results with newly-promoted Bikita Minerals and his exploits have attracted interest from other top-flight clubs.
Chaminuka had reportedly been set to be unveiled at GreenFuel late yesterday but Bikita Minerals were desperately clinging on to their man.
This is despite Chaminuka revealing his frustrations with the lithium miners, just 10 matchdays into their Premiership debut.
TelOne have also entered the race for Chaminuka’s signature while Hwange, who are understood to be on the verge of sacking the long-serving Nation Dube, are also tracking the former national team assistant coach.
But it looks like GreenFuel, who parted ways with Rodwell Dhlakama, were by yesterday the front runners for Chaminuka’s signature.
“GreenFuel have settled for Saul Chaminuka but Bikita Minerals are holding on to the coach.
“It’s still work in progress,” a source close to the GreenFuel dressing room told Zimpapers Sport.
Former CAPS United and Orapa United coach Taurai Mangwiro has also been linked with GreenFuel.
Mangwiro watched GreenFuel’s 3-0 win over Arenel Movers in Chisumbanje last weekend.
Harare City coach Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa’s name has also been thrown into the mix.
“Taurai Mangwiro was here in Chisumbanje, Herbert Maruwa is also in the mix while Saul Chaminuka has been spoken to.
“Another executive meeting will be held on Friday (today) to come up with a final decision.
“The main issue with Chaminuka is that he has a sticking contract with Bikita Minerals,” said the source.
Zimpapers Sports has also been alerted that TelOne are also interested in Chaminuka, with incumbent Tendai Chikuni set to be reassigned.
“Chaminuka is indeed on top of the list,” said a source.
“I am sure you are aware Chikuni has been a bit under the weather so the plan is to reassign him to another post within the club,” added the source.
TelOne are also understood to have sounded Dhlakama.
But it is Chaminuka whose exploits at Bikita Minerals have spun the heads of many club chairmen.
Chaminuka has presided over nine league games.
He has three wins, two draws and two losses. Chaminuka has a 50 percent success rate with modest Bikita Minerals, who now sits above giants Dynamos, CAPS United, and defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars.
Chaminuka has posted wins against CAPS United, Simba Bhora, and Bulawayo Chiefs while his three draws have come against FC Platinum, Yadah, and ZPC Kariba.
