A FOUNDERS High School basketball coach in Bulawayo was outed as a paedophile after he was caught kissing and fondling a female Form Two pupil.Terence Kapere, 23, was arrested on Tuesday after the girl’s father stumbled on him locking lips and caressing his 14-year-old daughter’s breasts.

He appeared in court on Friday facing charges of indecent assault.

Alondolozwe Sitsha, prosecuting, told the magistrate that Kapere, a part-time basketball coach at the school, met the girl at the Southwold shops and accompanied her home.

“Kapere told the girl, who was in the company of her young bother, that they should look for a beautiful girlfriend for him and the two agreed to do the task,” said Sitsha.

“He whispered into the girl’s ears that he would be happy if she found him a girlfriend as beautiful as she was.  The girl remained silent and they parted ways.”

On Tuesday Kapere met the girl again near a local lodge and he grabbed her hand before kissing her lips and caressing her breasts. The girl responded to the kiss.

“While kissing the girl, Kapere saw her father walking along the same street and he let her go. He ordered the girl to pretend as if nothing had happened.

“When the girl got home, her father questioned her about Kapere and she disclosed what had transpired. Her father made a report to the police, leading to Kapere’s arrest,” said Sitsha.

Kapere pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Sibongile Msipa sentenced him to 12 months in prison, of which six months were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence in the next five years.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition he performs 210 hours of community service at Hillside Police Station.
