To the successful coaches of the future, creativity will be a core coaching skill right up there with communication, passion, empathy, commitment, the ability to engage footballers and football specific skills.
An outside the box thinking is key for coaches who are looking for real innovation to give them a performance advantage over their competition.
However, most are not really looking outside the box, they really want something that just makes their current box a little bigger to hold more of the same stuff in it or they want short term, quick fix solutions.
They want some nice wrapping paper and a pretty ribbon to make the old box new.
To be the best of the best do not compromise creativity, compromising what’s possible in the interest of what’s politically tolerable is a recipe for disaster. It is safe to say thanks to the internet, anyone can find out anything, anytime and anywhere. Look at how other sports coaches solve performance problems and achieve peak performances.
A break through looking inside yourself is another step to take your imagination and your dreams of what’s possible and turning them into actions and good coaching behaviours.
The society awards winners, winning in this century means wearing faster, creating faster, faster than any time in the history of sport. Until next time l will be telling it as it is without fear or favour. Stay blessed.
