Colonel Dr Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga’s Wellness Plus Challenge is coming to Bulawayo, a move that has been received well with fitness fanatics in the city who have been following the challenge online.
In a social media post, Mrs Baloyi-Chiwenga said she was responding to the overwhelming response by people from Bulawayo who also wanted to take part in the challenge.
“Bulawayo omuhle you spoke we listened, let’s meet at ZITF Grounds Hall 2 on Saturday 10 October for the first time registration and verification for those who registered online for Wellness Plus Challenge. Your wellness is our priority,” she wrote on her Facebook page this Tuesday morning.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging Zimbabweans to embrace healthier and more balanced lifestyles and was launched as Col Dr Baloyi-Chiwenga celebrated her 50th birthday.
The programme places emphasis on physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
A US$10 000 prize pool has been set aside for the challenge, with the winner set to receive US$5 000, while the second and third-placed participants will pocket US$3 000 and US$2 000 respectively.
The first programme under the movement is a three-month weight-loss challenge designed to encourage participants to take a more deliberate approach to their health through regular exercise and healthy eating.
However, Baloyi-Chiwenga has stressed that the initiative goes beyond weight loss, positioning it as a platform for promoting healthier lifestyles and encouraging people to make wellness part of their everyday lives.
