Colcom reassures consumers

Colcom yesterday assured its customers that its products were safe and not affected by the outbreak of Listeriosis that has killed 180 people in South Africa.

Listeriosis is caused by a bacteria found in ready to eat products including cold meat.

In a statement yesterday, Colcom Foods said its processed meat products were not imported from South Africa.

The company said its processes were based on the International Hazard Analysis and Critical Point System.

“Colcom foods does not import processed meat products from South Africa. Our safety management systems are based on the international HACC (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) system, managed by a dedicated quality team. We at Colcom Foods prioritise the health and safety of our customers above all else,” said Colcom in a statement.

“Colcom foods management can assure all our customers and consumers that we will continue to produce safe, quality foods.”

The company said it upgraded the capabilities of its laboratory to test an increased range of microbiological factors.

“We have recently upgraded the capabilities of our laboratory to allow us to test an increased range of microbiological factors and have increased the frequency and intensity of deep cleaning our production facility and equipment.

“In view of the current Listeriosis outbreak in South Africa, the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe is carrying out preparedness activities as part of their response to safeguard public health and we will provide our full support to them with regards to this initiative.” — Herald Reporter.
