The Meteorological Services Department has warned that the cold, cloudy and windy weather conditions will continue to be experienced in most parts of the country with some light rains expected in places.
The cold conditions are expected in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo, Manicaland, southern parts of Midlands and Mashonaland East provinces although it should become less cloudy and cool by afternoon.
“In contrast, Matabeleland North, northern districts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland West and Central provinces are anticipated to have mostly clear skies, very cold at first with ground frost in areas such as Lupane, Hwange, Nkayi and Kadoma; cool by day becoming cold overnight,” said the MSD.
Nyanga is forecast to record the lowest temperatures today, with a maximum of 8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 5 degrees Celsius while Harare will have a maximum of 15 degrees.
Yesterday, some western parts of the country experienced severe ground frost.
Although it was cold for much of the day, the MSD said there were no record breaking temperatures.
“Clouds, driven by moderate and cold south-easterly winds, drifted further into the country to cover the southern and eastern parts of the country (Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, southern parts of Midlands, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland East and Central provinces) in the morning,” said the Met Department.
In Chipinge, Makoholi, Hwedza, Rusape, Marondera and Plumtree, it drizzled.
It is anticipated that by afternoon tomorrow, most parts of the country would be sunny and mild, with the exception of the Eastern Highlands which will be partly cloudy and cool, becoming cold towards evening.
The very cold morning and evening conditions could have an effect on the health of vulnerable members of society while also affecting plants and animals.
