But one Russian priest has taken things a step further, claiming the multi-coloured footwear fashion is a “homosexual abomination”. Russia exited this summer’s World Cup in the group stages and priest Alexander Shumsky couldn’t be happier at his nation’s footballing woes.
Shumsky believes Fabio Capello’s men deserved to fail because they promoted the “gay rainbow” by wearing a variety of colours on their feet during the tournament.
“Wearing pink or blue shoes, [the squad] might as well wear women’s knickers or a bra,” Shumsky wrote in a column.
“The liberal ideology of globalism clearly wants to oppose Christianity with football. I’m sure of it.” —Metro.
