The Sadc Fashion Week came alive this week and the capital has been a hype of fashion activity.
While the fashion fete started with a colourful cocktail party that was attended by fashion enthusiasts and high profiled guests last weekend, the real excitement comes with the runway shows that started yesterday.
“We are excited by the success of the new concept we are bringing into the local fashion industry. The turnout has been amazing from the opening night with attendees at our workshops are getting a lot of information on fashion. All the regional and international guests are in the country and everything is on course,” said regional coordinator Charlene Kunira.
The Chapman Golf Club in Eastlea hosted the official opening of the runway shows yesterday.
The show saw some of the 50 local and regional models taking to the runway showcasing an array of contemporary African designs.
Amongst the designers were locals Ostric-Afric and Immaculate, Towa from Zambia, Urban Zulu from South Africa, Immanuel and Ingo from Namibia, -Zim and Ser Tony from Botswana.
“Different designers are coming up in tomorrow night’s show (tonight) and we urge fashion enthusiasts to continue coming in their numbers. Attendees can also benefit from the workshops that are also taking place on the sidelines,” said Kunira.
She spoke of how the fashion show plans on giving birth to the biggest African wear shop that will sell clothes designed by regional designers. She said the shop would also have branches in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
