CAN the Chevrons evoke the spirit of 2007?
After all, Brendan Taylor, the star of that special victory in Cape Town, is still part of the Chevrons’ squad.
Eighteen years after that battle in the Mother City, Zimbabwe and Australia clash in an ICC T20 World Cup match in Colombo today.
The Aussies are expected to win this match but that was also the case in 2007 when the World Cup was held in South Africa,
Ricky Ponting led a team that was fresh off their dominant win in the 2007 World Cup just a few months earlier in the West Indies.
By the end of their innings, the Aussies were on 138/9. Opener Taylor anchored the chase all the way to the end, staying unbeaten on 60 off 45 and Zimbabwe, incredibly, beat the ODI world champions by five wickets, with a ball to spare.
Zimbabwe’s innings was interrupted by rain in the 12th over of their chase.
Taylor smashed two sixes in the 15th over off Brad Hodge and it came down to Zimbabwe needing 12 to win off the final overTaylor hit Nathan Bracken for a four off the first ball after which both he and Chigumbura kept their cool and saw their side over the line. – Sports Reporter/hindustantimes
