BULAWAYO, a city known for its vibrant arts scene, is about to come alive once again as the much-anticipated Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo prepares to captivate its audience.
This year, the festival promises to inject an extra dose of joy into the proceedings with its exciting Comedy Night. Laughter enthusiasts, brace yourselves for a night of side-splitting hilarity, as talented comedians from Bulawayo take the stage to tickle your funny bone.
The Comedy Night is a collaborative effort between the Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo and the esteemed comedy connoisseurs at Umahlekisa Entertainment.
Mark your calendars for September 30, as this uproarious event is set to conclude the festival on a high note.
In an interview, Umahlekisa Entertainment director Ntando Van Moyo said art cannot be what it is without stand-up comedy.
“It’s important to have comedy as part of the festivities at the Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo because it gives a variety to the festival, besides what’s a festival without laughter?
We are very excited at the continued collaboration with the organisers of the festival,” said Moyo.
Lately, the comedy fraternity has been challenged by the old guard to introduce new faces to ensure growth of the funny business. This has necessitated the need for comedy hubs such as Umahlekisa Entertainment to breed new comics.
“We are bringing a mix of Ama 2k lama 80s so people can experience a new mix. We are also having our annual Comedy Roast in October we are still engaging personalities who are willing and whom people are interested in,” shared Moyo.
Award-winning Zimbabwean globe-trotting comic based in South Africa, Q expressed readiness to perform back home.
“I’m ready to do the things. It’s been a while and shall be good to be back,” he said.
Comedy has been a critical facet of art in Bulawayo, breeding diverse comics who would change the stand-up comedy circuit.
These include the late Clive Chigubu, former comedian Carl Joshua Ncube, Ntando Van Moyo, and C’khanyiso Dat Guy. — @MbuleloMpofu
