A 20-YEAR-OLD Nkulumane man has been imprisoned for three months for defaulting on his community service.
Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso sentenced Archibold Mumbamaro to three effective months in prison for defaulting on his community service.
Prosecuting, Whatmore Tembo said Mumbamaro was supposed to serve 105 hours of community service for unlawful entry and theft but defaulted.
In mitigation, Mumbamaro told the court that he was not feeling well during the time he was supposed to perform the community service, hence he defaulted.
“I got sick during the days I was supposed to perform the unpaid work,” he said.
Tembo however, said Mumbamaro was arrested by the police at his house and there were no signs that he was sick.
He said Mumbamaro also failed to produce medical reports to support his claim.
Chimiso said Mumbamaro was lying and should therefore serve a jail term for defaulting.
