CONDOLENCE messages continued to pour in as Zimbabweans remembered Paul Gundani, one of domestic football’s legends, who died on Wednesday.
Stan Dube, a former vice-president of the Sportswriters Association of Zimbabwe, who worked as the Midlands correspondent for The Herald, was very close to Gundani.
“I was very close to Gundani but, during his last days, I was not aware that he was sick and he was hospitalised,” said Dube.
“I knew Gundani from his time in primary school until his days in administration.
“Gundani was a humble man, he was the same man on and off the pitch and he touched the lives of many footballers in his life.
“He was a great player during his days when he played alongside the late Ephraim Dzimbiri, who happens to be his brother-in-law.”
Founding president of the Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association, Eddie “Mboma” Nyatanga, said Zimbabwe football had been plunged into mourning.
“He brought peace in football, he supported the welfare of players and we are are sending a delegation to bury him.
“He was a humble man and very intelligent. He played football at the highest level and was a key member of the Dream Team,” said Nyatanga.
