THE ongoing Zanu-PF 16th Annual People’s Conference in Masvingo is expected to address differences within the province, acting provincial chairperson Cde Amasa Nhenjana said yesterday.

The province has been rocked by divisions in its executive committee which saw some senior members including the chairperson Cde Ezra Chadzamira being suspended.

Cde Nhenjana said the conference provides an opportunity for them to “find each other” expressing hope that they would come out of the meeting more focused and united.

He said the provincial executive had embraced the call for unity ahead of the Bikita West by-election early next year and the 2018 elections.

“This conference should help us to find each other. We want at the end of the conference to see a more united Masvingo that pulls in one direction. We have Bikita West by-election coming next month and the general elections in 2018 and we can only win by working as a team,” he said.

Cde Nhenjana said there was no factionalism in Masvingo but conceded there could be differences.

He hailed the provincial executive and other members in the province for demonstrating unity of purpose during preparations for the conference.

“I would like to thank my executive and all members who were involved in the preparations of the conference,” he said.

The conference, running under the theme, “Moving with Zim-Asset in Peace and Unity” will be attended by 7 000 delegates.

It started on Tuesday with a Politburo meeting at the party headquarters in Harare followed by a Central Committee meeting also in the capital yesterday.

President Mugabe is scheduled to officially open the conference tomorrow.
