Herald Reporter
A special envoy of Congo-Brazzaville President Denis Sassou Nguesso yesterday met President Mugabe at State House to introduce to him a former French Government minister who is spearheading energy projects in Africa. Mr Martin Adauki, who is the Diplomatic Advisor to President Sassou Nguesso, came to introduce former French Minister of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning Mr Jean Louis Borloo, who served between 2007 and 2010. “President Sassou Nguesso sent me to introduce to his brother President Mugabe Mr Borloo,” said Mr Adauki after their meeting with President Mugabe.

“Mr Borloo is a former French minister and he is promoting new projects on energy in Africa, so he came to make a presentation to the President.”

Mr Borloo said Europe wanted President Mugabe, who is AU chairman, to lead the implementation of the project on the continent.

“Europe must assist in financing electrification in Africa and President Mugabe is the cornerstone of this project,” he said.

Mr Borloo could not give more details of the project.
