Congratulations Zvishavane

Cosmas Zulu

Getting a draw at home after a one all draw in Congo-Brazzaville and booking a place in the group stages of Africa’s Champions League is a big achievement.

Success has nothing to do with prestige symbols, but with creative accomplishment. Rightly speaking no man should attempt to be a success, but every man can and should attempt to be successful.

Trying to be a success in terms of acquiring prestige symbols and wearing certain badges leads to frustration and unhappiness.

Striving to be successful brings not only material success but satisfaction, fulfilment and happiness, man is by nature a goal- striving being.

Congratulations to Norman Mapeza and your administration, technical staff and players, not forgetting the community of Zvishavane.

Beating the goalkeeper when clear of the defence
The task for an attacking player who breaks clear of the defence and only has the goalkeeper to beat is never as easy as it appears. Perhaps it is the very fact that the chance appears to be easy and everyone expects the player to score and is greatly excited by the prospect that puts mental pressure on the player.

The attitude of the player is therefore of vital importance, he must be composed and keep his head when all those about him may be losing theirs, this is achieved by knowing what one can do. There are four elements involved in beating goalkeeper when clear of the defence. It is the Approach; Observation; Decision; Execution

Set plays — defending
It is a fact that over 40% of all goals are scored from set plays, free kicks, corners and throws.

The more important the game and the more evenly matched the teams are the more likely it is that the winning goal will be scored from a set play. Why do teams find it so difficult to defend at set play? There are two particular reasons.

The attacking team can place a large number of players in pre-planned attacking positions. It is impossible to exert a high degree of pressure on the services as with the exception of a throw-in, the defending players always have to be ten metres away. There is a general lack of detailed defensive organisation at set plays. It is a fact that many players lose their concentration when the game stops.

Detailed planning and organisation; Planning is important as it is the best guarantee of getting and making the task of one’s opponents as difficult as possible it is also the best guarantee of getting the best out of the players as individuals and as a team.

Concentration; In order to perform well a player must be alert and watchful of what is happening. It is not sufficient for a player to know the details of what to do, he must concentrate on giving an overall performance in tactical terms, the basic problem is the all set plays is twofold; Marking players and Marking space.
