Connor expects tough City test

Motor Action failed to turn up for their last match following a dispute between the Mighty Bulls and the Premier Soccer League over the venue.
However, this is now water under the bridge and the former champions, winless and goalless in their opening two matches, are hoping to get it right this weekend against the super-charged league debutantes, who are unbeaten in three matches.
“We anticipate a tough game from them. Hopefully after 90 minutes we will be celebrating. I am looking forward to a good game at the National Sports Stadium. I prefer to play our games at the National Stadium because it is a better venue, with a big area and the changing rooms are better.
“I expect Harare City to give everything,” said Connor.
The Irish coach said he is not under pressure after two games and insists that the results will come soon rather than later.
“It’s still early. After 20 games without a win then I am going to panic. Everyone tells me we have the best squad on paper but we do not play on the paper but on the grass.
“We will score goals. It is nothing to panic about. I would be more worried if we have not been creating the chances,” said Connor.
CAPS United forward, Conrad Whitby, who is yet to make his debut appearance since joining the team said he was confident that the team will come right.
“We have been unlucky with the results but they will come,” said Whitby.
The coach said save for the injured Tendai Samanja, everyone was fit for selection.
Captain Edmore Chafungamoyo, who had been dropped for the aborted match against Motor Action due to injury, is also back in the fold.
Problem child Evans Gwekwerere is also lining up for a starting place and the coach revealed that the striker, who last week shed a gloomy picture at the club, could be an option this weekend.
CAPS are still to score a goal this season and the coaches believe Gwekwerere’s presence can exert pressure on the pair of Washington Pakamisa and Clive Kawinga who have been leading the attack.
“Evans has trained really well this week and is fighting for a place in the team,” said Connor.
Bigboy Mawiwi charges have drawn their opening two matches, a 0-0 against Motor Action, a 1-1 draw against Monomotapa with their first victory coming last weekend when they dismissed former champions Gunners 2-1.
And the former Gunners mentor has assembled a competitive side with  Young Warriors captain Willard Kalongonda, former Dynamos defender Brighton Tuwaya, and Nathan Ziwini, among the prominent players.
Across town at Gwanzura, Blue Rangers welcome Adam Ndlovu’s Chicken Inn who return to the venue where they roasted CAPS United a week ago.
The Bulawayo side are also unbeaten and have really started well and last week marched on when Tendai Ndoro and Danny Phiri’s goals were all they needed to beat Quelaton.
Blue Rangers, who were acquired by the club’s executive members, have signed some veteran players like former Dynamos defender Nyasha Chazika, Elliot Matsika, Eddie Mashiri, Vincent Nzombe and Bernard Bvumbe Benesi.
The club is yet to win a match having got a baptism of fire in the opening week when they fell to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Highlanders and last week lost 2-1 to Shabanie after they had taken an early lead through Chazika.
Bulawayo giants Highlanders – who have started the season with a roar — will take their goals’ roadshow to Mutare where they date Buffaloes.
