Benn’s bid to claim the WBC welterweight title went up in smoke in just TWO ROUNDS of their Sin City showdown early Sunday morning.
Garcia, 28, dropped the Brit with a peach of a right hand early in the second before referee Thomas Taylor halted his follow-up barrage against the ropes.
The stoppage in Benn’s ill-fated return to 147lbs was the FIRST of his professional career.
And as a precaution due to the extreme weight cut he performed to get down to the championship mark, he was taken to the hospital for additional medical checks.
Dana White confirmed: “I don’t mess with that stuff, man.
“I think everybody that had a rough fight, got knocked out or whatever, should go to the hospital.
“The UFC’s, I mean, 25 years, never had a death or serious injury in the UFC and we wanted …keep that record going in boxing.”
A crestfallen Benn left the ring without giving a post-fight interview.
But he reflected on his first stoppage loss on Twitter a few hours after having his world title dreams shattered.
He wrote on X: “Not my night, no excuses. @RyanGarcia you’re a great champion.”
Garcia’s demolition job of Benn saw him make the first defence of the belt he ripped from Mario Barrios’ clutches in February.
After his first title defence. he said: “I feel at peace.
“I’ve always had a right hand, but I’ve always had injuries. I want to thank Conor for great buildup and a great match. Viva Mexico!”
The 28-year-old then wasted no time in opening the door to a showdown with Teofimo Lopez and a rematch with Devin Haney.
He said: “Teofimo, get that ass up here. “Where you at? He wants to get crazy; we can get crazy. I’ll beat your ass right now! Hopefully we get to beat Devin Haney’s ass again for undisputed. F*** the Haneys!”— Sun.
