Constable stones, crushes wife’s head

He allegedly stoned and crushed her head.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Patrick Chademana confirmed the gruesome killing incident, which occurred on Sunday at Village Masvori, Chief Gambiza.
The woman has been identified as Letwin Siyapi.
Insp Chademana said the suspect, Lovemore Toziya (30) had since been arrested and was now assisting police with investigations.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a  murder case in which an 18-year-old woman,    Letwin Siyapi died after she was hit several times on the head with bricks by her husband aged 30.
“The suspect, Lovemore Toziya, is now in police custody and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder incident are still under way,” he said.
Sources close to the investigations told Chronicle yesterday that Toziya who is a police constable based at Mashava Police Station had long suspected that his wife was cheating on

him.
The sources said Toziya had not been reporting for duty for the past three weeks while conducting some “investigations” into his wife’s alleged affair with a neighbour.

“Toziya has been suspecting his wife of having  an extra marital affair with a neighbour who was also a go between (idombo) when the  two married. For the past three weeks he has been at home in Chiwundura while closely monitoring his wife’s movements,” said the           source.
A relative and neighbour to Toziya, Mr Amon Phiri, who attended the murder scene said they only responded to the woman’s screams for help on Sunday morning when she was being attacked by Toziya.

“Toziya had given his wife an order not to speak to a neighbour (name supplied) whom she was  being accused of having an extramarital affair  with.
“When we rushed to the scene on Sunday morning after we heard some screams, Toziya who had already crushed his wife’s head using some bricks then told us that he had seen the wife communicating with the neighbour using some signs,” said Mr Phiri.

“It’s unfortunate that we could not help and save her life because Toziya was very violent and by the time we arrived he had already caused severe injuries on his wife to the extent that she died at the scene.”

He said the incident had left many villagers in the Chiwundura community shell-shocked.
“It was a very sad incident, which we least expected to be committed by our  relative who is a law enforcement officer,”  said Mr Phiri.
