A local private voluntary organisation, Deaf Women Included is constructing a safe shelter in Ward 7, Guruve.
The safe shelter is being constructed on 14 000m² of land and the organisation bought from the Guruve Rural District Council at a concessionary price.
This safe shelter will serve as an alternative option for survivors of gender-based violence and other vulnerable groups in the community, in addition to the existing Dambatsoko shelter in Mazowe District.
The community has shown support for this initiative by coming together to mould bricks. Each village in the ward is contributing labour to mould 40 000 bricks needed to start construction.
Village Head Nobert Jokonya of Jokonya Village expressed joy over the development.
