The Government has commenced the construction of a toll plaza along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway, while rehabilitation of other roads continues countrywide.

This development follows last year’s signing of an agreement with local firm Henna Concession to rehabilitate the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway and upgrade Nyamapanda Border Post, marking a significant step towards the commencement of this critical infrastructure project.

The project will involve a complete overhaul of the highway, including the dualisation of key urban sections in Harare and the construction of a new toll plaza along the route.

Simultaneously, work will also begin on the modernisation of the Nyamapanda Border Post to streamline cross-border traffic.

In a move that will benefit local residents, the Government also plans to establish a Vehicle Inspectorate Department depot at the border, thereby eliminating the need for residents to travel to Murehwa for vehicle licensing and inspections.

Construction of the highway is expected to start at the intersection of ED Mnangagwa Way and Samora Machel Avenue in Harare.

This Tuesday, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development announced a temporary road closure along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway to facilitate the construction of the toll plaza.

“In terms of the Roads Act [Chapter 13:18], the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, in conjunction with the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara), wishes to advise the motoring public of a temporary road closure between 40km and 40.5 km along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway from 18 February 2026 to 31 July 2026. The closure is necessary to facilitate toll plaza construction,” said the ministry.

During this period, traffic will be diverted onto a detour road.

Road users are advised to reduce speed when approaching the construction zone, strictly adhere to traffic control signs and signals, exercise patience, and follow instructions from traffic control personnel, among other things.
