Contracts for housing project

at the Nyatsime housing project.
This has raised hope to the more than 15 000 people who bought residential stands in the virgin suburb.
The municipality has also hired a company to install a new accounting system after the old package, installed in the early 1980s, became prone to hacking and financial leakages.
The Nyatsime housing estate is divided into two phases of which the initial contracts will cover work for phase one.
Stand owners expressed fear that the funds could have been abused.
Town clerk Mr Godfrey Tanyanyiwa on Monday confirmed that contractors for roads, water, storm-water drains and sewer had been engaged.
“We have awarded the water reticulation installation tender to Drawcard Enterprises, roads, sewer and storm water drains contract to Madz Contractors,” he said.3
The tenders mean building of houses can start.
Chitungwiza had advised stand owners to start their housing development before the infrastructural developments.
“If they accept the offers and terms and conditions we expect them to be on the ground as soon as possible.
“I have just signed the letters notifying them of the offers,” he said.
Phase one is on Braemar Farm.
Mr Tanyanyiwa said contracts for phase two would be advertised soon.
These would include the construction of a bridge to link the housing estate with the Chitungwiza built up area.
Mr Tanyanyiwa said council was in the process of installing a new accounting system that would ensure all financial transa- ctions are computerised.
“We will have point of sale terminals at all cash receiving points be it in beer-halls, revenue halls and clinics.
“The old system was being hacked. We were losing cash.
“The new system is watertight and it will help us avoid leakages and pilfering.”
He said all council district offices had been networked to head office.Chitungwiza has suffered huge losses at its beerhalls and revenue offices as workers took advantage of the lax accounting system.
