The play has a mixture of seasoned and new actors.
Nomathamsanqa Mkhwananzi landed the lead role of Thuli and Zenzo Nyathi, popularly known as Mazambane from Amakorokoza, will play Mopho, Thuli’s brother.
A new actor, Trevor Kanema, will play Thuli’s boyfriend.
Mabzo, a seasoned actor, will play Thuli’s father with Duduzile Sibanda playing her mother.
In an interview recently, Sihlangu Dlodlo, director of Qhube Productions who are the directors of the play, said the rehearsals would be completed this month.
“I think between 10 and 15 August we will be done with the rehearsals.
“The play will be ready for the Intwasa Festival,” said Dlodlo.
He said because of lack of sponsorship, they had to move the premiere date forward.
“The companies that have been sponsoring us have been a major support and we want to thank them for that.
“Our main problem is that we cannot provide things like food and transport for the actors. That is why we cut the hours. Instead of eight hours we are doing two hours rehearsals,” said Dlodlo.
Last month Mateswu Dube worked with the cast in doing choreography, while Memory Kumbota worked on the script.
This month the cast was working with Eldon Zulu in music. Stitsha is a play about a woman’s struggle to be recognised and listened to when she wants to produce a play.
Her father wants her to marry a rich businessman instead.
Stitsha was aired on ZBC TV and was a hit on the national broadcaster.
The late Beater Mangethe played the lead role Thuli during the airing on ZBC TV.—Bulawayo Bureau.
