BULAWAYO’S Dominican Convent dismissed hosts South Eastern College in a high schools’ basketball league encounter in Chiredzi over the weekend. Led by Thandeka Ngwenya, the visitors’ first team displayed a polished performance that saw them overrunning their hosts 26-2. The Bulawayo school’s Under-16 team also overwhelmed South Eastern College 25-4, while the Under-15s also won 18-4 and the Under-14s registered an 8-0 win.

Dominican Convent sports director Titus Chikonye hailed the school’s basketball head coach Lerule Smith for overseeing constant improvements in the teams’ performances.

“It’s quite exciting that we won all our games and we appreciate what Lerule has done. We were without five first team players, but because of the training sessions that she held, every player performed to their best ability and the absence of regular players was hardly felt,” said Chikonye.

“With the kind of players we have, it’s not amazing that we’re winning. South Eastern College were strong opponents and we learnt a lot by playing against them. We’re going to implement some of their tactics as a way of improving our own game.”
