Residents of Magwegwe North are reeling in shock and suspicion after a house belonging to Keven Nkomo and his wife Sinqobile Dube was burnt down under unclear circumstances.
According to neighbours, Nkomo, a former soldier, had deserted the army, and since his disappearance, his wife Dube had been subjected to relentless harassment by army officials seeking information on his whereabouts.

Nkomo is related to the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo.
“They would come to the house, demanding to know where Keven was,” said a neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous. “Sinqobile was living in fear, and eventually, she went into hiding with one of their children. The other child, Charles, was left with us, but now he’s gone missing too.”
The neighbour revealed that the attacks on Dube had escalated, forcing her to flee for her safety. “We’re worried sick about Sinqobile and the children. We don’t know what’s happening to them.”
The mysterious fire that gutted the Nkomo’s house has raised suspicions among neighbours, who believe it may be linked to Keven’s desertion.
“We can’t rule out foul play,” said the neighbour. “The army has been looking for Keven, and now their house is burnt down? It’s too much of a coincidence.”
The community is calling for an investigation into the fire and the disappearance of Charles Nkomo. “We need answers,” said the neighbour. “We need to know what’s happening to this family.”
