COOL TALK ME UP

Swag Mama
A new year has started. How did the old one go for you? Would you say that it was a good one? If you could rewind and do it again what would you change? Which of those changes would depend on you, and which ones are beyond your control? There are many things that happen in life which we do not like and wish they had not occurred. Failing exams, the death of a loved, breaking up and not being able to fit in with the rest of your age are just a few of these things.

Which is where the New Year comes in. It not only marks the beginning of a new calendar year, it also gives us a chance to draw a line over the past and start afresh. That is why a lot of people make resolutions at this time.

But before you rush to make a list of how to become perfect, read on a bit. There are things like death that we cannot control. Then there are others like failing which we can. So decide what you can change and work on that only.

No one is perfect and it would be unrealistic and totally stressful to expect that of yourself. And it is really not necessary.

So make a very short list of realistic resolutions.

For example, if you cannot add one plus one then it would be better to decide to improve your grades by 20 percent in the first term than to say that you want to be at the top of the math class.

And do not waste your time on lost causes like resolving to win back a girl or boy who has broken up with you. You might end up embarrassing yourself and becoming a WhatsApp joke.

Instead think of getting over the person and moving onto to other things.

We have already looked at how you then need to plan how you are going to achieve your goals.

You have to write down exactly how you are going to improve your grades like with an extra hour of study each day or extra lessons.

Till next week, keep your life going up! Talk me up
