Coordinators and performers of the 2025 Bira ReMbira paid homage to the late Mbuya Stella Chiweshe by visiting her homestead in Goromonzi.
During their visit, they shared insights about the mbira genre with her daughter, Virginia.
Led by Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza and Benjamin “Nyamasvisva” Nyandoro, the gathering on Wednesday turned into a rare assembly of great minds dedicated to promoting culture through mbira music.
This visit coincided with the upcoming launch of Mbira Month, set for this Saturday at Heritage Village in Harare.
Notable attendees included Tichaona “Nyamasvisva” MaAfrika, leader of Mawungira Enharira, Vee Mhofu from Dziva ReMbira, and Sasha Amadhuve.
“We had an amazing time at Mbuya Stella Chiweshe’s homestead in Goromonzi, where we met her daughter, Virginia. The meeting was invaluable as we exchanged ideas on how to best restore our culture,” Nyandoro shared.
Virginia expressed her gratitude for the organisers’ gesture, stating: “Words cannot fully express how humbled we are by this visit. It was a successful meeting, and I consider it blessed by my mother’s spirit wherever she is.”
