A police officer has been arrested for allegedly stealing and clearing stolen cattle belonging to villagers in Gweru Rural District. Bausi Pamire (36) and his accomplice Blessing Zishiri (52) appeared before Midlands provincial magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa facing charges of stocktheft they both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
They were, however, remanded in custody to 19 June for trail.
Prosecuting, Mr Andrew Marimo proved that sometime in May, the two hatched a plan were by Zishiri would steal cattle at Ruby Farm on the outskirts of Gweru and Pamire, who is employed as a police officer at Gweru Rural Police Station, would clear the beasts using false information and they would later sell them to local abattoirs and butchers.
The criminal activities came to light when Pamire’s superiors inspected the livestock clearing records leading to his arrest and his accomplice Zishiri.
The value of the stolen cattle amounts to $5 500 and nothing was recovered.
