A police officer was recently assaulted by three men after being discovered at a lodge with one of his counselees, following a tip-off.
Constable Blessing Mutoko, 33, of the Victim Friendly Unit at Budiriro Police Station, was rushed to Harare Central Hospital due to injuries sustained during the altercation.
The assailants were identified as Charles Jamba, 66, Joseph Jamba, 38, and Tinashe Magumve, 21.
Mutoko had been counselling a couple involved in a domestic violence case.
After exchanging contact information, he developed an inappropriate relationship with the wife, leading to a rendezvous at Dombo Lodge, near the police station.
After their meeting, the two went their separate ways.
However, the woman’s husband and his relatives approached Mutoko, who was not in uniform, and demanded to know his association with the lady.
Sensing danger, Mutoko hurriedly entered a commuter omnibus to escape the situation.
The three men pursued him and forcibly pulled him from the vehicle, leading to a violent altercation. Despite his attempts to resist, Mutoko was assaulted with fists, sustaining several injuries, including a cut on his nose and a swollen face. A bystander intervened and reported the incident to the ZRP Budiriro, which led to the arrest of the three assailants.
Mutoko was later referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi was unavailable for comment, but Zimpapers has confirmed that the case is being officially documented under RRB 6698354.
One eyewitness remarked on the incident, stating, “Mutoko was jeered at for his handling of the domestic violence case. Counselling requires professionalism, and this officer not only failed to demonstrate that but also misused the contact details of the counselee.” – H Metro

Secret marriage leaves hubby dead, sisters injured
A harrowing incident in Penhalonga has left two women injured and five children fatherless after their husband took his own life following a violent confrontation with his two wives—who are sisters—over his secret third marriage.
The tragedy unfolded last week at Brighton Mhungu (35)’s home in Tsvingwe middle-density suburb, where the revelation of his clandestine union sparked chaos and despair.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed that Mhungu ingested cyanide after a heated dispute with his wives, Bridget and Brenda Nhopore.
Both women are recovering from injuries sustained during the altercation and are now grappling with grief and uncertainty.
Mhungu’s death has left his five children without a breadwinner, compounding the family’s anguish.
“On January 5, at approximately 8pm in Tsvingwe, Penhalonga, Brighton Mhungu died after ingesting poison,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka. “Earlier that evening, around 7.40pm, Mhungu had a serious disagreement with his two wives after they discovered he had secretly married a third woman. The argument escalated into violence, with Mhungu assaulting his wives before threatening to take his own life. He then drank poison in their presence.”
After consuming the substance, Mhungu drove his vehicle about a kilometre from his home before parking it by the roadside.
His lifeless body was later discovered inside the car by Benson Nhopore (54).
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged the public to resolve domestic disputes peacefully and to report cases of abuse early before they spiral out of control. – Manica Post

Man dragged from food queue after crashing lecturer’s party
A MATSHOBANA man learnt that not every open door leads to free food and friendly smiles after allegedly crashing a lecturer’s welcoming party and wandering where guests were not expected to roam.
Solomon Henry (32) found himself before the courts after drama erupted on 2 January at a welcoming bash hosted by National University of Science and Technology (NUST) lecturer Dr Lidion Sibanda. What started as laughter and plates of food quickly turned into raised eyebrows and questions of who invited who.
Trouble reportedly began at the food queue where guests started whispering among themselves that an intruder had slipped into their close-knit circle. None of the invited guests knew Henry and suspicion spread faster than gravy on isitshwala/sadza.
Moments later, the alleged party pooper was dragged from the food queue as murmurs turned into pointed fingers and demands for answers. The celebration mood soured as panic and disbelief rippled through the gathering.
Cops where quickly called in.
The hungry Henry was hauled away with his tummy still growling and his mouth salivating, after he was stopped, inches from the food trough. Prosecutor Joseph Rugara told the court that Henry gate-crashed the party and was initially found inside a bedroom, a location not usually listed on the party programme. The surprise visit raised alarm and sowed the initial seed of suspicion among guests.
Henry however, had his own version. He insisted he was invited and claimed his presence was purely humanitarian. According to him, he was helping an elderly person get food, proving that even party crashers can wear angel wings. Bulawayo magistrate Casmila Madzikatire weighed the drama and opted for mercy. She handed Henry a six-month sentence which was wholly suspended, sending him home with a warning and a lesson.
The case left guests laughing and shaking heads. Some told B-Metro that: “Next time invitations should be printed in bold letters and bedrooms clearly marked off limits!” —B-Metro
