He was taken to Kadoma General Hospital from where he was transferred to Harare.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident, adding that police had arrested Lawrence.
Evans was still on the run.

“We are dealing with a very sad incident in which a member of the police Sergeant Murimakamwe was attacked by machetes, an iron bar and an axe in the course of discharging his lawful duties,” he said.

Sgt Murimakamwe had received a report that two people were threatening patrons with machetes and an axe.

He attended the scene with four colleagues. They team followed the brothers, who disappeared but suddenly emerged from the tall grass and pounced on the policemen. Evans assaulted Sgt Murimakamwe using an iron bar and a machete several times.
