A CHIPINGE police officer was last Wednesday slapped with a $100 fine for assaulting a male reveller over a bar lady.Admire Mbizo (22), a police officer stationed at Chipinge Transtech, was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mr Makamera Waini, facing assault charges.
Mr Waini sentenced Mbizo for 12 months in jail, of which six months were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence in the next five years. A further six months were suspended on condition that Mbizo pays a fine of $100.
The State led by Mr Witness Nyamundaya stated that on November 2 at around 10pm, the complainant, Norman Mutikiti (22) was playing a game of pool at Matyezuva Night Club in Gaza high-density suburb.
“The complainant was asked by a lady only known as Lizzy to call the bar lady for her. The accused person was inside the bar drinking beer where the complainant proceeded inside and talked to the bar lady.
“Mbizo asked the complainant why he was talking to his girlfriend. After quarrelling for some time, they both went outside where the complainant directed the bar lady to the person who was calling her. This did not go down well with the accused who then started assaulting the complainant with open hands. He further attacked the complainant with an empty bottle on the left cheek. The complainant sustained a deep cut and was rushed to the hospital where he was treated. He then reported the matter to Chipinge Central Police Station, leading to Mbizo’s arrest,” said Mr Nyamundaya.
