He admitted to have been in illegal possession of copper without a licence and to have attempted to smuggle the copper.
Beitbridge resident magistrate Miss Gloria Takundwa slapped the accused with an R2 000 fine for illegal possession of copper and R4 000 for attempting to smuggle the contraband out of the country.
The copper cables were forfeited to the State. Failure to pay the fine would result in Muchanja being imprisoned for two weeks and one month for both counts respectively.
Charges are that Muchanja arrived at Beitbridge border post on October 24 from Mozambique in transit to South Africa.
While at the border post he underwent all customs and immigration formalities.
He also declared that his South African registered truck was empty.
Muchanja ran out of luck when detectives from the Border Control Unit spotted his truck.
They then intercepted the truck when it was about to leave the border post for South Africa.
