Cops nab armed robber

AN armed robber, who has been threatening businesspeople and stealing their property and cash, has been arrested.

Takunda Greatman Chinakuse, 26, was arrested in Chinhoyi.

In a statement, police CID) spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said Takunda, armed with firearms together with his accomplices who are still at large, threatened victims with violence, firing shots and forcibly broke into the victims’ shops and demanding valuables.

One of the victims lost US$4 524 in the process.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police arrested one the suspects on five counts of armed robbery that occurred at Zurungove Business Centre, Golden Kopje, Makonde.

“The suspect, who has been on police wanted persons list for three robbery cases that occurred sometime in 2024, was arrested on August 15, 2025, after detectives from CID Chinhoyi received information linking him to a series of robberies that took place at Zurungove Business Centre, Golden Kopje, Makonde on the same day.

“One of the victims lost cash after some threats and using the same method, they went on to rob four other victims at the shopping centre.

“On the same day, detectives from CID Chinhoyi picked information on the whereabouts of the suspect and conducted follow-ups.

“The suspect, who was driving a Toyota Passo registration (AET 0656) was subsequently arrested.”

She added:

“Following a thorough search of his vehicle, various cellphones, 17 by 12 bore live rounds, 2 by 303 rifle live rounds and two axes were recovered.

“He appeared at Chinhoyi Magistrates Court and Chinhoyi Regional Court on August 19, 2025, for the previously issued warrant of arrest and the new charges where he was remanded in custody to August 26, 2025, and September 2, 2025, respectively.

“We are now on the trail of the outstanding accused persons.”
