BULAWAYO’S Ward 26 Councillor, Mpumelelo Moyo, who is facing fraud charges after allegedly demanding US$20 000 from Labenmon investments, was back in court today to give reasons why he was arrested at Tsitsi Mapfumo’s house.

Moyo was initially charged together with Bulawayo Deputy Mayor, Councillor Edwin Ndlovu, who has since been acquitted of the same charges after the State failed to provide evidence directly linking him to the offence.

Moyo, who was represented by his lawyer Prince Butshe from Butshe and Associates appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Richard Ramaboea.

He told the court that Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigators seized his phone and deleted the WhatsApp conversations he made with Mapfumo after arresting him at her house. He further stated that the chats were about the youths from his ward who wanted employment in Labenmon investments.

He was remanded out of custody to 5 September for judgement.
