Former Belgium manager Marc Wilmots has been appointed head coach of Cote d’Ivoire it has been confirmed.

The 48-year-old has been out of football since his departure from the Red Devils after Euro 2016, having previously taken them to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Wilmots replaces French coach Michel Dussuyer who resigned from the role after the defending champions were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.

The former Schalke and Bordeaux midfielder is said to have signed a two year contract with the Elephants, which includes an option for a further two.

It is a quick highlight for Wilmots, coming just days after an airline company he invested €140 000 into after Euro 2016 went bankrupt.

Wilmots will have his first press conference as Cote d’Ivoire boss today, and then oversee his maiden game in charge two days later as they take on Russia on March 24 and Senegal on March 27 in friendlies.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied a report that he has been offered a two-year deal to take over at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Sun reported yesterday that the French champions had approached Wenger about succeeding Unai Emery in the summer.

Wenger is out of contract at Arsenal after this season and has yet to announce whether he is staying on or stepping down.

But he told beIN SPORTS there was nothing to the PSG link, saying: “It is a false rumour. That is what you call fake news.

“I formally deny it. It is not true.”— Goal.com.
